About the Book:

Jade loves the house she's just moved into with her family. She doesn't even mind being the new girl at the high school: It's a fresh start, and there's that one guy with the dreamy blue eyes. . . . But then things begin happening. Strange, otherworldly things. Jade's little brother claims to see a glimmering girl in his room. Jade's jewelry gets moved around, as if by an invisible hand. Kids at school whisper behind her back like they know something she doesn't.

Soon, Jade must face an impossible fact: that her perfect house is haunted. Haunted by a ghost who's seeking not just vengeance, but the truth. The ghost of a girl who ruled Jade's school--until her untimely death last year. It's up to Jade to put the pieces together before her own life is at stake. As Jade investigates the mystery, she discovers that her new friends in town have more than a few deep, dark secrets. But is one of them a murderer?

Check out our Exclusive Interview with the Author Here!

1) When you got that first phone call announcing you had sold a novel, how did you react? How did you celebrate?

I was calm and collected on the phone with my agent. But then I jumped up and down screaming when I called my husband and my parents. Then, after the phone calls when I had a moment to myself, I sat on the floor and cried.

2) Do your ideas for stories or scenes come to you when you're actively thinking about them? Or do they come to you while dreaming, or out of the blue?

Ideas for scenes in a current work-in-progress can come to me when I’m trying to think of them. But brand new story ideas never come when I’m actively looking. It’s always out of the blue. Usually when I’m doing something mindless—showering, cleaning, driving, or exercising.

3) How did you get the idea for the novel?

The first idea for THE DEAD AND BURIED came to me when I was reading an article about “stigmatized properties,” a.k.a. murder houses, and how they could be great bargains for families looking to trade up to a nice town or a dream house. And then I played a lot of the “what if game” from there.

4) How do you come up with your character names?

It’s different every time, but with Jade it was very purposeful. Her mother was a jewelry designer and obsessed with gemstones, so I knew her name had to be relevant to that. But I also wanted it to have a meaning that said something about her character. “Jade” was perfect for that, and the meaning is definitely addressed in the book!

5) What genre have you not yet written but really want to try?

Maybe Sci-Fi. I love reading it, but haven’t tried my hand at it yet. I’ve had a couple MG Sci-Fi ideas rolling around my head for years, so maybe someday I’ll tackle one of them.

I love that you promote reading through your giveaways, but are you aware that only 1 in 7 people are on FB and even fewer than that on twitter? People DO follow blogs through Google Reader or other means.
