About the Book:The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Immortals continues her new middle-grade series about Ever's younger sister, Riley.
Having solved the matter of the Radiant Boy, Riley, Buttercup, and Bodhi are enjoying a well-deserved vacation. When Riley comes across a young ghost named Rebecca, Riley soon learns Rebecca's not at all what she sees. The daughter of a former plantation owner, she is furious about being murdered during a slave revolt in 1733. Mired in her own anger, Rebecca is keeping the ghosts who died along with her trapped in their worst memories. Can Riley help Rebecca without losing herself to her own nightmarish memories?
Check out our exclusive interview with the Author!
1) After this many books, how do you keep the content and story fresh? For you and your readers?
Riley Bloom is an especially fun character to write as her being dead means that she has no boundaries of any kind. She can travel anywhere in the world, to deal with ghosts from any time period, which makes for endless story telling possibilities!
2) If Oprah invited you onto her show to talk about your book, what would the theme of the show be?
The Power of Forgiveness. At its core, SHIMMER is a book about forgiving those who’ve hurt you. A forgiveness that in no way condones the hurtful act, but rather frees you of the resulting hate and anger, which in turn unbinds you from the person who committed the act, allowing you to move on with your life. Sounds simple in theory, but is much more difficult in practice.
3) Thinking back to the way beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?
That pretty much everything but the writing is out of your control. There is no second-guessing the market—there is no predicting which idea/trend will be the Next Big Thing—there is no controlling how many books are ordered and sold. All you can do is write the story you’re driven to tell, then cross your fingers and hope for the best!
4) Let's talk about your main character, Riley Bloom. How did you think her up and is there any of you in her?
Riley is the character I relate to the most. She definitely has a spark of my twelve-year old self—the one who admired my older sister so much I chose to express that admiration by “borrowing” her lip-gloss, clothes, and David Bowie albums in an attempt to claim some of her effortless cool.
5) If there was one thing about Riley's life that you’d like to have in your own life, what would it be? What about the one thing about her life that you’d NEVER want to have?
I would love to have Riley’s ability to manifest whatever she wants merely by imagining it, and also her ability to fly—though I’d prefer to enjoy those two things without having to die first!

I simply adore Alyson Noel and everything she writes!! Such an amazing, sweet and beautiful woman - inside and out! =) x
I love all of your books!! While I've been waiting for Everlasting, I figured I'd pick up some of your other books and see what Riley has been doing. I was surprised at how much I loved this page turning, ghost story. I read Shimmer in a day, and loved the message behind it. Although it was throughly entertaining, and interesting, the forgiving message behind this ghost story was an excellent move on your part. Riley is maturing, and through these stories, she gains something new from each experience. I look forward to see what she must face from the council when Bodhi watches her take front and center stage. Even if I don't win one of your signed copies, is there a way I can purchase one? I already have Shimmer, but I am willing to purchase another one if I can get an autographed copy. I never became a book lover until I started your Immortal Series. Now I am a Riley Bloom fan as well. Thank you for sharing your awesome imagination with the world.
I have Radiance and I would love the chance to win Shimmer, but even I don't I still plan on purchasing it and reading both Radiance and Shimmer back to back this summer. I really enjoy Alyson Noel. :)
