2 Signed Copies will be given away on Friday, July 31, 2009

About the Book:

Thirteen-year-old Cody Saron has never lived in one place longer than a few weeks, and has never attended a regular school. Growing up on the run with his father, an undercover agent for the CIA, Cody has traveled the entire globe; he speaks five languages, and he has two black belts. What Cody isn't prepared for is...junior high.

When the danger surrounding Cody's dad heats up, Cody is sent to stay with the aunt he's never known, Jenny, in her small Connecticut suburb. Cody has no idea how to fit in with other kids, how to handle his first crush, or how to make it through a day of classes.

As Cody struggles to adapt to the one thing he's never experienced -- a normal life -- he starts to fear that his father's world has followed him and no one he loves is safe. Greg Logsted weaves together action, humor, and heart, building to a surprising revelation about what Cody has always believed to be true.

1) ALIBI JUNIOR HIGH sounds like a really fun read! How’d you come up with the idea?

The idea for ALIBI came in complete reverse of how I normally get an idea for a book. Most of the time I’ll get the outline of a plot in my head, a vague idea of the characters and then I’ll come up with a title. Sometimes I even change the title. My last book Something Happened was originally titled Sock Puppets In Love. This time the title came first. It just popped into my head and I proceeded to build a plot around that title.

2) So tell us, are you really an author, or are you a CIA agent in hiding, pretending to be an author?

I could answer that…but then I’d have to kill you.

3) This book is jam packed with action—karate and fun fight scenes—where’d you pull the inspiration for this? Are you a black belt in Karate or just a black belt in watching Kung Fu films?

My nine-year-old daughter’s been taking karate for about five years now but for her it has more to do with having fun than becoming a lethal weapon. Taking her to karate class is just part of our normal weekly routine so I guess it’s easy to see how it would pop into one of my books. That said…I did loved karate movies when I was a kid.

4) If you had to live undercover like your character, Cody, what life would you choose?

Oh, maybe living on a small Caribbean island. I’d be the tanned charter-fishing captain with the faded New York Mets baseball cap. I’d make sure everyone had a good time but I doubt they’d catch a lot of fish.

5) What’s up for you next? Are you working on anything new?

I just finished a YA titled The Stuttering Tattoo. It’s a gritty mystery. Boy meets girl takes her home and finds her family dog chewing on a severed arm. It’s filled with action, motorcycles and of course karate. My agent’s shopping it right now.

About th
e Book:

Sophie Donnelly is one half of the most popular and powerful couple in school, until new girl Angie Vogel shows up and compromises everything. Angie steals Sophie's starring role in the school play, and, worse, her super-popular boyfriend. Sophie has been quickly dispatched to social Siberia, but not for long--she'll do anything it takes to make a triumphant comeback.

Read our exclusive interview with author Marlene Perez!

1) The Comeback is a different from your popular DEAD IS Series. It’s less…well, dead. What made you want to take a break from vampires and death for a while?

I read pretty much everything, so my writing interests are pretty broad, too. I’m always full of ideas, but the trick is to figure out which idea is hollering the loudest, the one I’m really itching to work on.

2) Where did you get the idea for The Comeback?

The germ of the idea came from a certain well-publicized celebrity break-up. Sophie Donnelly, the main character in The Comeback, came about because I wanted to play with the traditional storyline of a popular girl who becomes a better person and learns from her mistakes. Sophie has a little bit of Scarlett O’Hara in her. We don’t necessarily like that character, but we sure are fascinated by her.

3) In your opinion, what almost-has-been celebrity made the best come back?

Better a has-been than a never was, as the old saying goes. Although I’m leery of labeling anyone as a has-been, I think John Travolta has managed to re-invent and re-energize his career. And Jackie Earle Haley has resurrected his acting career after a long absence.

4) Have you ever had to make a “come back” of your own?

I think life is a made up of a bunch of come backs, big and small. A few years ago, I was between agents and publishers and my first novel was going OP. Then I signed with a new agent and he sold four of my novels in five weeks. Every book brings new challenges because I’m always attempting something different. I think it’s important to keep your head down and keep writing, no matter what roadblocks you face.

5) What’s up for you next? Can we look forward to more installments of the DEAD IS series?

There will be two more books in the DEAD IS series. DEAD IS JUST A RUMOR is scheduled for the fall of 2010 and DEAD IS NOT AN OPTION should be out in the spring of 2011. And then I’ll work on a new manuscript called RIFT, which is a teen paranormal romance.

5 Signed Copies will be given away on Friday, July 17, 2009

Kathryn Williams talks about summer camp, writing for Disney and her brand new novel which hits stores THIS week! Listen to our exclusive interview with Kathryn Wiliams here!

About the Book:

"I died one summer, or I almost did. Part of me did. I don't say that to be dramatic, only because it's true."

For the past nine years, Helena Waite has been returning to summer camp at Southpoint. Every year the camp and its familiar routines, landmarks, and people have welcomed her back like a long-lost family member. But this year she is returning not as a camper, but as a counselor, while her best friend, Katie Bell remains behind. All too quickly, Helena discovers that the innocent world of campfires, singalongs, and field days have been pushed aside for late night pranks on the boys' camp, skinny dipping in the lake, and stolen kisses in the hayloft. As she struggles to define herself in this new world, Helena begins to lose sight of what made camp special and the friendships that have sustained her for so many years. And when Ransome, her longtime crush, becomes a romantic reality, life gets even more confusing.

Told with honesty and heart, Kathryn Williams' second novel tackles the timeless theme of growing up, set at a camp where innocence is created and lost.

Exclusive Interview with Kaza Kingsley

1) What was the biggest challenge in writing the third book of this series?

Interestingly, writing the third book was actually easier than the first two! The characters have grown so much, and I know them so well now. And the story has grown legs – it has really taken off on its own. So many irons are in the fire, and so much is at stake, that the story really seems to tell itself.

Writing this series is an interesting form of escape for me. It’s like watching a movie unfolding. I know what has to happen, but I don’t always know how the characters will respond or how they will make it from point A to point B. I’m often as surprised as everyone else! But at the same time I have to set up events that I know will unfold. So it’s a challenge at the same time as a joyride for me!

2) How many books will there be total?

There are eight books in the Erec Rex series. I have finished writing Book Four, The Three Furies. That will debut next year. So the series is actually half written. It has also been plotted out from the beginning. I can’t wait to start Book Five soon!

3) Erec Rex is kind of an unusual name. How did you come up with it? Does it have any specific meaning?

You bet! Erec is derived from Heracule, as his character is based loosely on the legend of Hercules from mythology. Erec also means true ruler in Norway, and Rex means king in Latin. So I definitely was thinking about his role in the series when I named the main character.

4) If there was one thing about Erec’s life that you’d like to have in your own life, what would it be? What about the one thing about his life that you’d NEVER want to have?

The second question is easy – there is a LOT I’d never want to deal with that Erec lives with every day. The commands that take over his psyche, forcing him to do as they say. The evil sorcerers out to kill him and steal his eyes. The knowledge that instead of kicking back into an easy life he must fight and do impossible quests, as he is the only one that can save the world.

But what would I want that Erec has? I suppose the adventure would be amazing. And a few things he owns like a Serving Tray that produces any food item that it’s asked on the spur of the moment. Yumm. I’d ask for a big, juicy cheeseburger and hand-cut fries right now, then some chocolate pie with toasted marshmallow on top and hot fudge, fresh chocolate chip cookies . . . Then again, maybe it’s a good thing I don’t have that tray!!

5) What’s in store for book 4? When does it come out?
Book Four is finished. It’s called The Three Furies, and will come out next year. I can’t wait--it's a long one but a good
