By the time Kate Larson accidentally fell asleep at three a.m., she'd already done more work in one night than the average high school senior does in a week. Getting into Yale has been her dream for years—and being generally overworked and totally under-rested is the price of admission. But when she opens her eyes the next day, she comes face-to-face with, well, her face—which is attached to her body, which is standing across the room. Wait, what?
Meet Kate's computer-generated twin. Kate doesn't know why she's here or how to put her back where she belongs, but she's real. And she's the last thing Kate has time to deal with right now. Unless . . .
Could having a double be the answer to Kate's prayers? After all, two Kates can do more work than one. Or will keeping her twin a secret turn her dream future into a living nightmare?

1) I love the concept of this book! There are SO many things I could do with a “Dupli-Jess.” If you could clone yourself, what would you have Cherry II do?
Oh my god. Don’t even get me started. Errands! All the stupid stuff I don’t feel like doing...I would basically make her my assistant. I love my job so it’s not like I’d ever have to send her in for that, but she would totally be on grocery-shopping and putting-gas-in-the-car and post office and dry-cleaning and laundry duty. She would have to get me Yogurtland at all hours. She would have to bake me brownies if I get a hankering for brownies.
2) The title is perfect. Did it come before the story? During the writing of the book? Or after the book was complete?
It was somewhere in the middle...I think I had finished a huge chunk of the first draft, if not the whole thing, before we settled on a title, so for a while it was just "magic double" or something equally nondescript (or descript, I guess, just not particularly catchy). :)
3) I read that you also write for the hit show, Family Guy (so cool!) What’s the biggest challenge in going from the writer’s room of the show to your own writer’s room at home?
Thanks! The biggest challenge is definitely discipline—on a TV show you’re in a room with a bunch of people so you’re actually accountable for doing something, whereas at home I can literally surf the net all day and write nothing and it’s not like anybody’s gonna be like “Um, hello?” I have no problem showing up at the office on time, but on my own, doing book stuff, I’m kind of all over the place unless there’s a deadline staring me right in the face.
4) What made you want to get into writing young adult books?
I actually hadn’t thought about writing books since I was a little kid, but then one day my agent asked if maybe I’d want to take a shot at writing a novel and I was like um, YES! At the time I had no idea it was going to be YA, but I’m so glad it turned out that way...the YA world is so fun and everyone is so nice.
5) Two books done! Phew! What’s up for you next? Are you working on a third?
Yep! No official info to report yet, but definitely working on it. Also, my next episode of Family Guy airs in November. It’s called “Hannah Banana” and is about Stewie becoming obsessed with Miley Cyrus, and the Evil Monkey meeting the family.
